The UK is seeing a big rise in the ‘mum economy’ an army of female entrepreneurs opening new businesses while juggling hectic family lives. It is estimated that females currently form 50 per cent of start-ups among Muslims – with this figure set to rise further in the future.
However, are the Muslim mums getting all the support they need?

Tahera Akther is a Mother of four children, entrepreneur and a motivational speaker. She is the founder and headteacher of Olive Tree Study, a leading weekend Islamic schools in London with over 700 pupils enrolled, four branches and a remarkable team of 70+ staff members. She started with only 10 students and now has grown the company expansively over a short span of time. The company is now expanding its vision to working towards an international franchise brand.
As a successful entrepreneur, the release of her latest innovative product called ‘The Quran song’ has gained international momentum with sales in over 15 countries worldwide. Recently she has partnered with a successful new business called Dinner Share which is a platform for people to sell their home made food for food lovers looking for quality and wholesome takeaway food. The company has already enjoyed the success of having more than a thousand sign up across 15 cities in the UK with a bold vision of becoming the next success story like Uber.
Aisha Rahman is famously known as Modest Street, a youtuber, fashion blogger, makeup artist, hijab stylist, host and a motivational speaker. In every project, she passionately promotes her many ways of styling modest apparel. Thus, she thrives on the quality of images and is very dedicated when working on projects.
Lively, energetic, funny and extremely passionate, Aisha is a mother of 5, and is breaking all barriers, proving to the world ‘Muslim Women can be bold, have a career and still hold values and manage their family responsibilities.
Having said that, Aisha is incredibly active on social media and loves engaging with her vast number of followers. She is renowned for her ever so creative looks on snapchat and her vibrant character attracts a wider audience which symbolizes her unique selling point.
Zukreat Nazar, is a celebrity makeup artist known to bring her artistic flair and creativity to the makeup world. She has been an artist of makeup for 16 years mainly catering for bridal clients on their most special day as well as Hollywood and Business celebrities. However, she is more than an artist, she is a YouTube sensation and an entrepreneur who has a vision. Zukreat has worked tirelessly over a number of years to design, manufacture and establish a product range that allows every user to become a professional
Saiyyidah Zaidi is the founder of Millionaire Muslimah providing financial education and showing Muslim women how to start, grow and run a business from home. Saiyyidah is also one of 300 Certified High Performance Coach and the only one who is also a Positive Psychologist and Certified Business Coach. With her husband and children Saiyyidah spends her time travelling the world running her business and home schooling her children. Saiyyidah teaches others how to activate their full potential and live life on their terms.
Saiyyidah was one of the youngest Directors in Local Government in London, UK and was responsible for major regeneration and education refurbishment and rebuild projects with a value of $1/2 billion. Since leaving the government in 2010 Saiyyidah has been helping others to progress in their careers and is working towards supporting the creation of 10,000 new businesses in the West and to an additional 10,000 businesses in the developing world through ethical microfinance grants.
Co-founder of Amaliah.com a Content and Commerce site which aims to amplify the voices of Muslim women. Currently brings the community together. Mother to Aishah 3.5 years old and Eesa 1.5 years old. Sleep is a figment of her imagination often.
Passionate about empowering and uplifting those around her and an active member of her local community in Brent. She believes that each of us have been granted one main gift and it’s important we look into our self to find out what that is and how it will benefit the world around us.
